Civil Engineer – Development Infrastructure Location: Central London Salary: £38,000–£45,000 + 10% bonus, fleixble working, hybrid and more

Overview

Emtech Recruitment is working with a well-established multidisciplinary consultancy seeking a Civil Engineer with strong experience in development-led roads and infrastructure design. The London Infrastructure team is 20-strong and collaborates with civils teams across 7 additional UK offices, contributing to major residential, commercial, education and mixed-use schemes. The team has an exciting pipeline of projects, including large-scale masterplanning developments of 1,000+ units, progressing from planning through to detailed design, as well as a variety of mid-sized and smaller schemes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of smaller development infrastructure projects.
  • Support senior engineers on large-scale residential, commercial, and mixed-use schemes.
  • Produce highways and drainage designs in line with UK standards (S278, S38, S104, SuDS).
  • Undertake Civil 3D / Site 3D modelling, including earthworks design.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, local authorities and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to project management tasks, coordination and quality assurance.
  • Support planning applications, technical approvals and detailed design packages.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Highways and drainage design experience for development infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of S278, S38, S104 and SuDS processes.
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D / Site 3D, and general earthworks modelling.
  • Previous experience delivering private-sector development schemes in the UK.
  • Ability to manage workloads, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.

In this role you will be joining a team of 15 within civil engineering which sits as part of a wider multi disciplinary office. You will be expected to help train some of the junior / apprentice staff whilst also helping to run projects and deliver for a wide range of clients. Experience Required:
  • A minimum of five years’ experience within the UK, with an aspiration to gain Incorporated or Chartered status.
  • Experience in highway and drainage design with a working knowledge of UK design standards is needed, together with the ability to balance several projects and meet project timetables.
  • There is a varied workload ranging from large scale distribution centre developments in the commercial sector and residential schemes of varying scales, from pre-planning through to construction so the candidate would need to show experience in highways, external works and drainage for these types of projects.
  • Private sector experience and a working knowledge in the use of Civil3D, together with Microdrainage, Autocad, Autotrack (vehicle swept path analysis) and Navisworks.
  • Experience in producing designs that can be incorporated to BIM Level 2 status would be beneficial, with the ability to undertake 3D coordination with the design team to ensure that internal project work can be released in IFC or similar format to the required site grid systems.
  • The successful candidate would be encouraged to manage projects, attend meetings and liaise with client, design team and third party representatives.
  • Proven report writing (FRA, drainage strategy, specification etc) and communication skills will be required, together with an ability to work as part of a team.
