Highway Engineer

Highway Design Engineer
Location: Leeds
Salary: 30k – 40k plus package
Emtech are working with a growing Engineering Consultancy who are looking for a Highway Engineer to join their team based just outside Leeds city centre. On offer is the chance to work on a wide range of highway projects across the UK as part of an experienced team. A Chartership training programme is in place and you will have the chance to take on responsibility of projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Working with both existing and new highways and active travel projects, ranging from local junction improvements to multimillion pound motorway maintenance framework contracts
- Inputting at early project stages: preparing scopes; specification and interpretation of surveys; site visits; option appraisal and preliminary design; meetings with clients and stakeholders
- Detailed design: modelling; calculations; drawing production; bill of quantity and design assessment of risk, highway design
- Document contributions including authoring technical reports, such as feasibility, options and planning reports, specifications and contract documents

Graduate Flood Risk Engineer
Location: Bristol

Emtech are working with a Civil Engineering Consultancy who are looking for a Graduate Flood Risk Engineer to join their team in Bristol. As a Graduate Flood Risk Engineer you could come from a Civil Engineering, Environmental or similar degree background. You will support the team at preplanning stage of development projects for a wide range of projects including residential, education, leisure, commercial etc.
Your core role to start with will be working alongside a Senior Engineer to assist in the preparation of Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies and flood assessment work for development proposals. You will also have the opportunity to go out on site visits as part of a varied role.
Candidates are being considered from University Graduates up to 12 months relevant experience.
Beneficial experience for the role:
- 0 – 12 months experience in flood risk, drainage or infrastructure design. If you have studied this at University this would be beneficial

Associate Transport Planner
Location: Central London

Emtech are working with a privately owned Engineering Consultancy who are looking for an Associate / AD Transport Planner to join their Transport Planning team in Central London. In this role you will be expected to project manage a range of development schemes, manage clients, help to grow the team and train / mentor junior staff in the London office.
In London they have a small transport team which works alongside the transport planning teams based in other offices. They are looking to grow their London presence and so this role has real growth potential for the right person.
Workload is evenly split across education, residential, commercial, industrial, healthcare and mixed use schemes. There is not a large focus into one specific sector.
This is a business that have grown year on year and are now looking for a lead Transport Planner to be part of their growth in the London office.
Ideally you will have the have the following experience:
- Experienced undertaking development planning work, specialising in providing highways and transport advice to a wide range of private sector clients, while supporting several key local authority clients. They provide advice on access, transportation and infrastructure issues and support development proposals throughout the planning process. The projects are varied so experience across a range of sectors such a residential, education, retail etc would be useful
- You will have a proven record in client care and ideally have secured repeat work previously from clients
- Well versed in the preparation of Transport Assessments for developments, together with Travel Plans, Transport Studies, the associated negotiations with planning, highways and transport authorities.
- Prior experience in GIS, ARCADY, PICADY, LINSIG and TEMPRO highway software, so you will be able to delegate to and accurately interpret the work of others.
- You will have strong written and verbal communication skills and able to work as part of a team and individually. Experience in technical report writing and consultation with stakeholders is essential.
- Keen to get involved with business development and marketing activities to support new revenue streams within transport planning – note work winning is not essential from the outset but something they will be looking for this person to get involved with in the future

Senior Flood Risk Engineer
Location: Bristol City Centre

The role is with a Planning & Environmental Consultancy who are looking for a Senior Flood Risk Engineer to join their team. As a company they have 80 staff across multiple office locations and have been running for over 30 years.
From a technical background they are looking for someone with good knowledge of drainage strategies, flood risk assessments, SUDS and microdrainage. Experience in project management, client liaison and fee proposals would be useful to but not essential as this role will give you the opportunity to get some client exposure and responsibility of delivering projects alongside a diverse client base.
This roles sits under a Director in Bristol and alongside other disciplines such as Town Planning, Environmental, Civil Engineering etc. There is clear scope for this person to move up to Principal & Associate positions over the next few years and be the number 2 in the Flood Risk team in Bristol.

Emtech are working with an exciting medium size engineering consultancy who are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join their team in London. You will provide engineering design on a day to day basis and undertake site inspections where necessary. You will have the opportunity to be involved in a number of exciting projects of varying value including those of high profile, throughout the UK, and work closely with other disciplines. You will be involved in all aspects from early stages of pre-planning through to post construction, and also attend design team meetings and site visits.
As a Senior Structural Engineer you will have gained good all round experience commensurate with your professional career to date and be comfortable with multi-tasking. Key technical attributes would include:
- Substantial UK construction industry experience - experience of residential development and historic building refurbishment would be an advantage.
- Good commercial awareness, (i.e. some experience in delivering a project within the fees quoted) and client liaison experience, (i.e. managing client expectations).
- In-depth abilities of undertaking superstructure, foundation and geotechnical design to latest Code of Practices and NHBC / BCO design criteria.
- Abilities of specifying common material specifications via NBS create/ Buildings: reinforced concrete, structural steelwork, masonry and timber.
